Aye, I came back here a little late, and while I might not be a big name in comics (I'm a reader who posts in forums, not a writer), I will do what I can to spread the word.
Hmm, it's mid august. That's half of August, all of september, all of October. That's enough time, right?

OK, so 2017 is lost.
What about 2018?
Hogan, if you were to get someone that was interested, would you be able to work with them in 2018 to train them, and let them run with it into the future?

Dawn of a New Era is ready for- wait, WHAT?!
No more capers? Were the Mayans perhaps off by five years?
It's one thing for 2017 to have no caper- it HAS been a crappy year- but no more, EVER?
Stefan, William and Queen Karen will be disappointed, not to mention many others. At least there are some things I can add to past years' Capers, so that it won't entirely not feel like Halloween, but still... that's a bummer.

If one would take on the mantle, and most of the work, Associated with the Caper and carry on the torch, I would be more than happy to talk it through with said person and give all the help and advice I could doKeybounce wrote: Hogan, if you were to get someone that was interested, would you be able to work with them in 2018 to train them, and let them run with it into the future?
I too despair seeing the Caper end, but I had to be realistic and realize I could not do it anymore, at least not alone...

Re: Hogan, don't throw in the towel yet!
This is a real blow since I was looking forward to crashing this years caper as well. I know I didn't do much, but last year was fun. If this year can't be helped; it can't be helped, but it seems like a waste for the Caper to go completely.
Re: Hogan, don't throw in the towel yet!
Yea, I mean, it's not like a small handful of comics couldn't have a small get-together without an official blessing, right?
Of course, they'd need to have some discussion about where, and probably have spoken out before now. But it looks like there's 1 for this halloween.

Well, there's that old haunted forum where old man Hogan used to live.
Why on dark nights when the moon is full you can almost hear him saying, "Caaaaaaaaaaaameos...!"

But you can't have comic characters visiting a forum, can you? That would never happen ... twice

Re: Hogan, don't throw in the towel yet!
Ok, here is a draft of a promotion I'm planning on tossing at some comic artists/authors. Comments and feedback before I do please?
Attention comic authors: the 2017 Halloween Cameo Caper needs your help. Hogan, who has been running this for the last 10 years, is feeling overworked, underpaid, and ready to retire.
What you can do: pay a visit this October to the town of Shelterville. You can make it a quick visit, or you can coordinate some activities with other authors. You can come fully armed, or you can leave your canon behind. Show up on the 31st for a party.
Long-term: we need someone that is willing to take over running the Cameo Capers in future years. Hogan has said he is willing to train you, and help you out, but his own personal life has reached the point that he can no longer run it on his own.
What is Shelterville: a wild West style town that has become a major crossover point for web comics. Common means of entry include:
• the Semi Mythical Otherworldly Gate corporation (S.M.O.G.) (http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/The_KAMics/4855678/ and many more that follow)
• A starport
• A train that runs across comic boundaries
• And magical teleportation effects.
(Uncommon methods could be anything. Heck, even the dead have been known to show up.) (1)
When visiting, please do not annoy Sheriff Hank. He likes his town orderly. Be sure to enjoy coffee at Summerbucks (good coffee, not addicting no matter what people say), run by [s]mob boss[/s] business woman Summer Fiveclaw of the Fiveclaw dragon clan. Do remember that while she might be considered a mob boss elsewhere, she and her ... "enforcers" / workers are just normal law-abiding business people here.
For more information:
• Information about Shelterville: http://dragoneers.com/shelterville/index.html and http://www.dragoneers.com/halloween2006/index.html
• Forum hub for the past capers, a place to co-ordinate with other authors, and massive database tracking comic crossovers: http://www.dragoneers.com/forum/
(And no, I did not misspell "canon" back there
(1): A necromancer lived there for a while; there may still be a portal to Hades/The Underworld. Or there might be some other reason for the zombies a few years back.

Ah dude.
Life ate my time so much this is the first time I've been able to check in on the Caper.
I'm bummed to hear it might not roll.
I hope things manage to turn around.

So if Dawn, Kam, Sacro, and Hey Fox show up in Shelterville, does that count as a caper?

We fight the anthropomorphic personification of Ennui.
Technically a story was never needed for a caper, just cartoonists drawing a Halloween picture with the other participants was all anyone needed to do. The setting and plot just kind of grew out of it. So a simplified "everyone meets at a bar where Hogan is chained to a wall" could work.

Summer, to her guest: "So, Hogan, I understand you tried to eliminate my October business this year. You know that I rely on my seasonal traffic for the revenue to stay open the rest of the year."

Not just Halloween, I stop by and use her services well into the spring, until the comics stop coming. Cutting out Halloween for Summer's business would be like cutting out the holiday season for retailers.
Re: Hogan, don't throw in the towel yet!
OK, it's October.
Who is going to be doing drawings in Shelterville, and where are you going to hang out? Lets get these crossovers going.

I could probably get one comic done if I knew who else was going to be participating and what they'd be wearing.
From me Gertrude & Brunhilda, still deciding on their costumes though.

... oh come on people, do you really want me to start up a stick figure comic just so we have something instead of nothing?

I'll get a page up. Fox rolling solo this year I think, or maybe bring Jamie back? I don't think he's quite removed from last year yet. -.^
Just lemme know who else is going to join in!

Re: Hogan, don't throw in the towel yet!
I just happen to think of the Cameo Crossover about 10 minutes ago, and commented on Kaza and Gwenna regarding their storyline, which kicked off from last year's Crossover.
(Did that ever have a proper finish?)
Anyway, I think I can whip up a short something or other. Lemme know where the page/comic is hosted and to whom I submit.
