Also blogged it at the Webcomic Crossover Group at DeviantArt and then off course on Twitter

Allright, as of today the 17th of July, the deadline has once again been met and this time the poll is officially closed!
Rounding up the votes from other forums we have:
Comicfury: 0
The Duck: 0
DeviantArt: 0
Misc: 0
... so by this we have a tie between Oz and Shelterville, meaning the setting will be a mash-up between those two!
... I'll be right back with a description of said setting... this wil be fun!

For some reason I had an idea for this and even drew up a sketch.Hogan wrote:... so by this we have a tie between Oz and Shelterville, meaning the setting will be a mash-up between those two!
of course, you've probably already got somethng, but what the hell.
Scale is in Shelterville when an interdimensional tornado sends her to Oz where she encounters oddly similar versions of people she knows.

There's a lot more to Oz beyond the MGM musical. L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books all together. If we are doing anything in Oz, I'd be more inclined to play around a bit beyond the commonly assumed.

Yeah, I'd want the Oz location to be based on the Baum version. Silver slippers, a wicked witch that (if shown) is an old crone who carries around an umbrella, Ozma, and so on. The musical was good, but the Baum version is also great and it's in the public domain, which means it can be easily played with.
All the bad things in life only help you appreciate the good even more.

Hmm, was kind of afraid of this. Hmm, well got to press on then.
The first few things that comes to mind when I think Oz is the movies and prison. Hmm... well can imagine two ways for this mashup to work, either having some kind of anomaly that either blends both Oz and Shelterville or just creates patches of Oz in Shelterville for character to go between the two worlds, or a more literal take of mashup. People have added there own take of the Wizard of Oz, so why couldn't we. Hmm, would be fun to muse though.

Just to get a few ideas going, I drew the Good Witches of Oz
L-R Lacosta (the original Good Witch of the North) Ozma, and Glinda

Well, it was established in some of the later Oz books that the land was sealed away in it's own realm to protect it from invaders. Maybe someone is trying to enter Oz, and Shelterville, being a transdimesional waypoint, is targeted becuase it provides access.RazorD9 wrote:Hmm, was kind of afraid of this. Re: Where to go for the Halloween Caper 2016?
I find I have no enthusiasm for this upcoming caper.
Oz was never a big part of my life. I know a little of it, but that is mostly from adaptations & other things. Maybe if it had been an Oz-like land I could get excited because then I could exercise my imagination. But, no, I have to stay true to a dead guy's imagination rather than my own.
Perhaps for future capers we put a moratorium on these types of places? No Wonderland, Barsoom, or Disneyland, just places like Wonderland, Barsoom or Disneyland. Give the participants a chance to stretch their imagination and invent stuff for the setting.
Also a tie-breaker for times when two, or more, locations that can't normally coexist win, should be introduced.

Re: Where to go for the Halloween Caper 2016?
I must admit my own knowledge of Oz so far has been limited to popular cult references, but I'm slowly catching up with it while setting up the setting for this year's Caper
But yeah, I understand how it can feel a bit "limiting" to take on an already played out settting, two setting actually (though Shelterville is more... "open") and it could be something we could take up for next year's caper, as well as some way to settle a "tie", although its always fun to try and flesh out such a "combined" setting :p
... the best way to avoid a tie though, would be getting more people to vote, but that requires spreading the words and luring more people in!

Have yous seen the Making Comics Underdog Forum? It looks like it's pretty active and worth adding to the list of stops.
