The Invitation

Post by Hogan »

You, as an artist, are hereby invited to let your characters partake in the great Halloween Cameo Caper 2006, that this years will take place in the little town of Shelterville in the American Wild West of 1883!
Your characters will meet up with other characters from other comics to hold a grest Western-themed Halloween in this backwater town with all the facilities!
The event will be recorded for the future by all the artist who takes part in the occasion!

We hope you will take well to this invitation and send you characters to a great time, for both them, you and the readers!

Should you need help in bringing your characters to the right time and location, we can offer a good many ways of transportation, from wardrobes to flying VW's! Just give the word and we'll see if we can make something up!

- The Management

Sounds interesting? Take a look a the basic idea behind it all here and a more through-out description of the chosen setting here.

If you decide to join the Halloween Cameo Caper 2006, then post a New Thread where you accept the invitation and present yourself as well as your comic. Then you state which characters from their comic you would like to participate with as well as a few links of reference for them (cast page for example), so other artists know how they look and has more easy access to references when they add them to their Halloween strips!

Any questions about the rules for participation goes in this thread!

Given that most comics are not set in 1883 how will the characters explain suddenly crossing the time barrier to get to the party?

Good question... I've added a few lines to the invitation.

Basically, if any artist need a "logical" way for the characters to appear in Shelterville, ways of transpotation can be "provided" (After all, the Archive has a multitude of comics to borrow vehicles, ideas and gadget from!) and drawn into the strip by the artist. And there's still the chance of accidently time-travel through abandoned mining shafts and similar! 8)
Getting sober and getting home is another matter!

It all depends on how "logical" and "canon" you want the party to be in a comic of yours...

"Canon" invitations to the party can also be send directly into ongoing strips... vultures will take the part of the owls!

I think non-canon would be the best way to go. Regardless of explanation for getting there, a lot of people aren't going to want something so massive or time-travely as a piece of their stories.

My main character was around at that time in history, in that part of the world, and even I don't think I'd want to make this canon to my strip. :P

It's also only an available option, because there ARE artists out there with comics crazy enough for such a canon event to fit in!

Hmm... well, if the comics have sprites and backgrounds to give the prober (Wild West) setting, making identifyable cameos of the other characters, as well as having characters themselves that can be cameoed by others, then I see no problems with sprite-comics participating! 8)
