The 39 rule is don't ride in front of the battle. What did the Editor do? 142 just was funny and I thought deserved an honorable mention due to hilarity.
I will now demonstrate why monologues are bad.
Philosopher positions a dummy down range and then promptly pushes a button on a controller after getting up range. The dummy immediately begins to talk "Hell (boom)...". Philosopher then shouts "Reset!" after having shot the dummy. The dummy is loaded and starts its speech again "Hello, I am the (slash)...". A thrown axe sticks out of the dummy and Philosopher begins a speech " As you can see by monologueing you give the hero or villain a free opportunity to take you down with little effort. I hope everyone has learned the reasons why monologues are dangerous to the monologuees.".

Actually, the Editor was far from the frontline of the battle, notice how sends his forces ahead to counter the attack of the Alliance in the opening of the battle? It's not like he was afraid or not powerful enough to take to the front, but from the back he could oversee and control the battle of his forces. As for the other EO's, Celine walked through the battlefield, striking where needed as did Fellback, Dr. Catatastrophe held back to call for reinforcement (HA's forces), only Deception went to the frontline... but whereelse would a powerful Dragon go?
Scale and her allies actually had to fight/sneak their way through the battlefield in order to get close enough to confront the Editor face-on.

Oh yes, monologuing is bad and dangerous to villains, no doubt about that!
However, monologuing is an inheritated treat in villains and heroes alike, especially with the former, and the EO's HAD to endulge it.... however, at the time during the Wars when they did so, they were well aware of the dangers and, like the Editor, kept an eye on their back, ready to cut the monologuing short if necessary.

So where was he because I question the EOU winning or at least stalemating if the attackers got that far though his army. As to the crocodile it was funny and required a trap door, a little grandchild, and a non mutated crocodile.

The Editor doesn't have any children, let alone grandchildren. Also, I lot of the so called 'good guys' gunning for him were sociopathic enough for that lame trick not to work.

What was the the Editor's motivation for the mass crossover? Does the Editor come from the same universe as Zworgue, Deception, and Dr. Catastrophe?

I won't speak for Eddy's motivation, as that would be presumptuous. But as for your latter question, no, he didn't.

Thanks. Well, if we don't know what his primary motives were then what did Eddy plan to do if he did conquer any comics or lands?

It wasn't brought up in the comic what their ultimate intention was, and I don't think anyone would really want to ruin the surprise to reveal it if they knew.

Well, Eddies plans may have had a the ends justify the means. So Eddy could have been a saint doing evil things to accomplish a greater good or in his mind anyway. Eddy also could have been doing it for evil reasons and believed them wrong or anywhere in the gray area.
