If the Editor's forces started losing only after the Editor was maimed then that would imply the Editor was micromanaging, another mistake by a certain German.
I think therefor I am.

Yeah, him, but I couldn't remember how to spell Kaiser.

I didn't know he was the second one, though.

If you read EOU then you would see that wasn't the case, as the Editor assigned tasks and objectives a lot. Also, the Overlords suffered losses before that, of course they did. For example, Magical Misfits pwned them. However, overall, their campaign was successful. The Editor being taken out was devastating for moral purposes, meaning many of the mooks fled afterwards. Also, all the the EOU high command were neutralized in that battle, one way or another. Meaning that they weren't around to continue were the Editor left off.

Well, when you look at it all, the EOU's started out their conquests by making mistakes, mostly on the lines of not fully checking out their targets well enough before invading, and then there was the problem with the DRACO and coordinates at first...
But they learned fast, their forces spread, and they were bolstered by allies, of which Alcydia og Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan comes to mind as she managed to make a signigicant impact in her own comic before, long time after the Wars were over, succumbing to failure and letting everything gained slip out of her hands. Then there was also allied Solution's invasion of Magical Misfits which also put the defenders of the comic on their heels, bringing down the Elven Kingdom and the wizardly fortress... yes, the EOU forces made an impact on canon of several comics.

Seen in hindsight, the invasion of Magical Misfits was not so lucky for the EOU's as the defenders not only managed to send Solution away (actually helping him to find Oblivion, the mighty robot, and take over his home comic- and world), but also was bolstered by the EOU-droids that succumbed to a little know effect of the world that made machinery aware and later added ammonition and knowledge to the Allied of the EOU. Still, a powerfull world/comic was at it knees at this point...

Then there was the invasion of the Forums which, if you look at it, was fully under the control of the EOU's... they achieved a major spacefleet from the Boardies, Transformguns from the Bunnies and Squata from the Wotchers (as well as a favorite spell of Deception), arms and items that bolstered their forces for the rest of the Wars.
In their end their stolen spacefleet was defeated by an alliance of the forums, defeated in open battle, so that bounty was a draw. They also did the mistake of not fully realizing the mentality and strength of Forum-RP-Readers (which, incidently, a lot of the reader themselves did), allowing for the attack back at the EOU HQ, which was repelled in the end.

About the same time Mindmistress managed to enter the EOU HQ and free some prisoners, but was too followed by the Editor, both ending in a checkmate situation.

What really defeated the EOU's went on below their radar. Nanognomes left by Magical Misfits combined with the Mini-Mindmistress left by Mindmistress and guided by Scale's freed creators (who had helped with the programming of the DRACO) who managed to sabotage the DRACO and pull all forces out in the open, aseembled in one place...

At the final battle the EOU arrived strong, all forces assembled, and the battle went back and forth, with the EOU forces actually (if you look closer at it) pushing the Allied forces, especially when the EOU's themselves went forth. The battle changed when first Deception fell to trickey and force, Celine was felled by a former prisoner (Dr. Catastrophe leaving the battle to carry her to safety), Zworgue distracted by his duel with Forma and, off couse, the Editor falling to the Axe.
At this point the EOU forces were without real leadership, yet still strong, the turnpoint didn't come before the DRACO collapses upon itself, pulling every EOU force carrying a Bracer into random dimensions, scattering them around the mutiverse, emptying the battlefield...

Even when I look back at it, It hard for me personally to see any major mistakes made by the EOU. They had most schemes under control and kept learning from their mistakes, among others bolstering their defence against each kind of attack that had breached their shields once. They each had individual flaws, but worked together unlike many evil overlords, supporting each other as well as allied who they outdelegated several invasions to.

What in the end defeated was their enemies' use of resources and information, finding loopholes in their defence, turning their own strengths (DRACO) against them, then besting them in a clash of forces, disabling the heads (the EOU's), then the body (their forces) by sheer strength and also a little luck...

You can say the EOU's took in too much, made too many enemies along the way, and it was an alliance of all their enemies that brought them down, but up until then they were pushing forward, close to achieveing their goal...

Do not believe for a minute, that IF the EOU's ever assembled again, they will not have learned from what caused their downfall the first time around!

That was a great explanation Hogan as to the reasons to the EOU downfall. I wonder though if the Editor may have planned this or this have been his plan all along for a more sinister purpose. If you think about the Editor was constantly being monitored by readers and with the downfall the Editor has been able to do things off the grid without authors or readers being able to see what strings he puts into place this time. Any thing you want to admit to Editor?

Hmm.

I was about to say that most of you had been making a big mistake, but really you hadn't - I just wasn't thinking about it hard enough. The Editor's fall wasn't what turned the tides of the battle (that was the DRACO's breakdown), but it WAS what turned the tides of the war. I'm sure if he had still been in commission, he could've recovered from that. Somehow.
Actually, heck - he's still recovering from it.

...

Hmm. Anyone seen any sign of what happened to the EOU droids from that battle?

The eyes narrowed. "I... planned... to be hit with that damnable axe, and lose all my hard-earned forces? Years of work, thrown away, for what you imagine to be some nefarious, deeper purpose? I believe you've read too many comic books, my friend."

4 of them ended up in M.Organ Art http://www.drunkduck.com/M_Organ_Art/index.php?p=290226 (NSFW), but I don't recall any other comic having any others turn up.

Although the idea that some of them ended up on the spaceship that will be the setting for the 2010 Halloween Cameo Caper is appealing.

Editor don't you believe you're in a webcomic? If it were some deeper plot the benefits of it would seem to be that artist and readers haven't seen what you have done under the curtain while you were playing dead. Some of your droids have infiltrated comics under the guise of being no more than mere robotic servants. Celine is now a operative of Chaos, all of the computer programs have found their way back into their old base making easier to corrupt them, and the necessary technology to begin the comic wars to begin with are with you so you don't have to trade your surprise attack for needed technology. Finally it would be a plan only a brilliant sentient being or a mad sentient being could begin to comprehend much less stop.
You are smart Editor so you have a plan B if plan A failed and I suspect you would know about the axe because you don't appear to be a person on skipping on your studies.

"I have an Idea and Ideas are bullet proof Mr."
Seems like a good quote . I really like the movie too.

You assume I assume you are a webcomic character. If this is the case you will find yourself sorely mistaken. Also I edited that comment Editor so please finish the last little bit I finished.

"I am not sure what it is you want me to say, Philosopher. If you are wanting me to tell you my plans, then let me assure you, I'm not nearly that naive. If you are wanting me to say that I am defeated, then you'll be left waiting for a very long time. As for plans A, B and subsequent, well... you'll just have to make your own opinions and theorycraft on that as you will. Time will tell what plans may or may not come... or it won't, and you'll be left wanting."

The voice yawned. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need a nap."

What I want to know is if you lost the war or lost a battle. I doubt you lost because if you lost you would be a carcass on the field.

These are quote I think fit this perfectly because if The Editor lost the war then I think he won a few battles.
If the Editor won then it is self-explanatory.

A fair number of them were given to ChibiVOR to be used against Mayhem. I'm sure we still have a bunch of 'em laying around somewhen.

Yes, the Editor won a lot of battles, that had been established. As for him predicting the Axe, I don't it. The Editor is smart, not omnipresent. Also, he was overconfident, thanks to the Power of his Name. He just forget that everything has loopholes.

There were a lot in the dungeons of Fort Mayhem, including sentient ones, plus other assorted prisoners. Then the place went boom, tidying up one plot thread nicely.

Now, if just somebody has told Smaug to get his gems well in place, then there'd mostly likely not been a trilogy to follow up on that event ;)

It's all about finding the loophole... and glad it wasn't a plothole

Probably not. There's the aforementioned massive explosion of the Fort, and if the EGSDF works anything like the real military*, captured enemy military hardware is typically studied, reverse engineered if it's worth it, and then scrapped out. No point in keeping huge warehouses full of the stuff.

((* I honestly don't think most of the DF works like a real military. I know the Navy tries to, but they're a bit of an interesting case.))

(I just realized that "notify me of replies" is not turned on by default. Annoying.)

Very well Mr. Editor, since you are back, I won't pretend to be you.

Still, I think I did a reasonable job. It's not like there are any flaws in my analysis, are there? If so, would you please point them out to me?

(... one month of replies ...)

Alright, take a nap, get some rest, and let us discuss this ourselves.

So, in the final battle, you had the Axe, and the Draco Overload. Lacking both of those, The Editor was still around, with lots of droids, even if his other people were taken out.

What would have happened with just The Editor and Droids? Would they have been able to stop everyone? Droids are, well, fodder. Good fodder, but fodder's fodder. They can't actually take and keep the victory themselves.
