The Goddess of Luck decides who shill cast her favor upon.
This is short tory about one she blessed with luck for a short duration.
He was a 2nd level Bard and pretty standard with regards to stats. Pretty good dex, int and cha, but below average in str and con.
But the dice roll I made for him was hopeless! In a fight he was unable to score a hit, his instrument checks sucked and generally had tough luck with most rolls.
But... he was one hell of fun to play!
Then came the day where the band had cornered the Main Bad Guy's stooge in a small cabin out in the countryside. As the villain fled across the plain, and the cabable fighters of the group was busy defeating his skeletons, the Bard set after the fugitive.
First he jumps on a horse and kicks it into full run (he was raised at sea and had no riding skills at all... but a dam good dex-roll!).
Seeing the Bard coming after him, the villain grabs a crossbow, turns and fires. With another high roll, the Bard slides down on the side of the horse, avoiding the bolt, then rolls up again.
Catchin up with the fleeing stooge, the Bard jumps from the horse with another great roll, tackles the villain from behind, plows him down in the grond, makes a somersault and lands unharmed, drawing his rapier and putting it to the moaning stooge's neck... no roll under 17 was made for that string of actions!
So, anyone else who got a tale about how pure luck and good rolls saved their hopeless character?
With luck and good rolls on your side...

Eh... does the reverse count? :)
A monk, DEX enhanced to 26, runs across a narrow bridge, and a gargoyle tries to knock him off it. Needs a natural 20 to hit.
And of course scores it.
The monk tries to grab hold of the gargoyle to avoid falling into the chasm. Misses only on a natural 20.
And of course scores it. :-/
After that, the remainder of the party, not knowing what to do, makes a run for it. Among them is a cleric in heavy armor, no DEX bonuses. And the two gargoyles make a passing swoop at him, and both miss. Twice. So everyone makes it across.
That was probably the weirdest series of events I've ever witnessed. :)

Last Wednesday; the game? old D6-system Star Wars. Whenever you roll a check in this system, you roll a wild die as one of your dice; if the wild rolls a 6, roll it again and add the totals.
My relatively low-initiative mercenary's first roll of the game, an initiative check on being ambushed by an Imperial Star Destroyer; 6 on the wild die. Rolled again? 6. And again? 6. Now, in D6 Star Wars, if you roll six straight sixes in this way, you spontaneously become force-sensitive...
It wasn't until the fifth re-roll that the die came up a 4.
One round later, and my light freighter has a TIE Interceptor on its tail. It fires, and I roll an impressive 8 dice to dodge. Wild comes up 6. Then 6 again. Then again and again... and another four >_< Still, we wound up on the TIE's tail instead of vice-versa (only for the damn thing to dodge every laser blast we could pour into it next round).
After that, I barely made any checks and rolled low initiative for the rest of the session...
Lady luck, huh?

My first adventure in 3rd ED D&D was played with a monk with pretty regular and low stats. Among other he had 9 in strength and 5 in Charisma (thats what I rolled, but there's a story behind it!).
Well, throughout the whole adventure module he couldn't do zip! He was mauled by dire rats, kobolds and similar critters (he went from level 1 to 3 throughout the adventure) and wasn't much of an addition to the party... except on two occasions... when it really counted!
The first occasion was when the party encountered a White Hatchling Dragon... is breath weapon took out the remaining three of the party in the first round, leaving the the Monk (who managed to, for once, made his saving throw and was left with 2 hp). One chance he had before it would tear him to shreds, and the rest of the party afterwards... he used his one and only Stunning Attack (1st level... doh!) and... actually hit the dragon? And... the Dragon failed its roll and was stunned... allowing him to capture the Dragon with the methods they had been provided beforehand, saving the party?
The second occasion was when the party, in the end of the adventure, faced the Dark Druid and his henchmen. Seeing the Druid as the greatest threat, the Monk tumbled over his henchmen and up close, managing to hit him for three rounds in a row (note, he had had a lousy to-hit ratio up to this point...), scoring max damage with each strike, felling the overlord before he could even get a single spell out! (off course, the Ranger of the party had begun the battle by rolling double crit, nailing him with an arrow and taking 2/3 of his hit points with one strike...)
I loved that Monk!

That wouldn't happen to be The Sunless Citadel, would it? We played it a few months ago... :)
Of course, the dragon wasn't much trouble, except hitting it... as it kept circling around the room, with just enough room to turn around with its arial maneuver class.
The real hilarity was when one of the fighters and the cleric tried jumping on a table in the middle of the room so that they could swing at the dragon while it was passing...
Our rookie DM was trying hard to follow the rules, so he required jump and balance checks. Both of them wearing medium armor and having no points in either category, there was no chance of it succeeding. And of course, they both fell on top of each other and slid off the table. :)
The final battle was much cooler, except for the enemy paladin... who got "heat metal" cast on his armor in the first round. :)

Allthough our Dragon got REALLY lucky with its initial attack... fortunately, so did my Monk!
Actually, I think our party was so weak that the DM had to downplay a lot of the traps and monsters, just to give us a fighting chance...
