I updated the timeline list again today, to reflect some changes based on PM conversations I've had with other artists, and my own planning.

Here's an updated list of what Alex and Gray should be doing in Shelterville (it's still very tentative, so there's still room to work in anyone who'd like to assist with the plot)

Wednesday - Alex and Gray appear in Shelterville, quite unexpectedly. Something probably gets broken during their arrival.

Thursday - Gray realizes that he no longer has the pendant he uses to open the portals. Alex points out that this is a very bad thing.

Friday - Alex and Gray begin searching around town, trying to find out both where they are and what happened to the pendant.

Saturday - Rumors abound of strange goings-on and digging in the cemetery. Of course, that's where Alex and Gray go.

Sunday - Exploration of the cemetery, and discovery of the cave underneath.

Monday - In the cave, Alex and Gray discover the reason the pendant went missing and finally recover it.

Tuesday - Alex and Gray leave Shelterville via a portal. Decent chance that something else gets broken.

Anyone who wants to join in on one or more of these story points, feel free to let me know, either in one of the threads or via PM. I'm also going to try and fit in as many cameos as possible in the background, especially while they're searching the town.

Well, I can't really take credit for the cave... it was in Hogan's description of the cemetery setting. It's an ancient Indian burial cave... for some out-of-the-ordinary Indians.

I'd like to run a comic taking place in the cave immediately following the discovery that the trunk is responsible for what's going on.. I want to have someone else's character, in my strip, say something along the lines of "What we need to do is calmly, rationally consider our next course of action, before we take some dangerous action we might later regret." Which is of course, immediately followed by Kori flying in from out of frame, jump-kicking the trunk, to everyone else's horror.

My question is, who thinks one of their characters would be the one making the call for rationality? Any takers? And is anyone violently opposed to my character attacking the trunk? It's what I think he would do in that situation, Kori's a "try the first thing that comes to mind now, ask questions later" kind of guy.

I suppose Gray could advise against taking any sort of rash action, since he's probably the one that has the most experience with magic and that sort of thing. I doubt he'd be in horror at the action, however... probably more a glib remark along the lines of, "Or, we could just do the exact opposite and kill us all..."

Feyd, do you think we should put the kick in both our comics? Or should I use Gray's comment as my punchline and then let the crossover go from there?

Also, I have a proposition for you. What if we put Alex and Gray's arrival in shelterville *before* the "something happens," and have them accidentally destroy a wagon or something in town, and thats the noise that attracts the Valkyries' and Kori's attention? That would mean your comic would come chronologically first on that release day. Cool?

Sounds good to me. Gray has a history of destroying things when he comes through portals (his first appearance had him bursting through a wooden door that the portal had opened behind), as do other members of the cast (the character Pagan Steve entered a room by crashing through the window)... so I think that I could manage to pull off loud noise + possible light effects = diversion.

Also, I think that the kick should be present in all of the strips that take place in the cave at that point... show it from a different view, basically, and show how all of the people there aren't exactly on the same page. In D/b, Gray would comment about how things should proceed with caution and then the kick occurs. Another comic might have someone talking about the philosophical aspects of how everyone ended up there and what the trunk might have to do with it, and then the kick. In your comic, you might show the thought process that leads up to it.

I absolutely love this idea, but i had a look at the timeline, and we have a time crunch of a day's worth of comics. If we want to have the 31st reserved for the party (which i think we should stick to), we need to squish our stories back just a bit and have some of the cave stuff a bit earlier.

feyd, can you have a look and see if you can figure out a way for us to make this work? I think maybe if we set up the trip to the cemetary/burial cave a day earlier, that would do it. And I have a great idea for how we can do that!!! When Steve and Bobby from Life & Death appear in Shelterville, they appear in the graveyard! So they would already have seen the digging/mystery cave entrance, and that's what could get us there. What do you think? They could even turn the whole thing into a jok, ie "grave robbers, necrophiles, whatever. I see it all the time" or something. Joff, feyd, what do you think?

It would be nice to know what Pr0nCrest is doing and how it relates to the cave.

Potential fix: Combine the events of Darian's Friends on Friday and Saturday... big freakout, and then meets "normal" people which calms him down. D/b could also combine Friday and Saturday, which would enable them to get to the cave on Saturday instead of Sunday. Hijinx ensue.

Also: Pr0nCrest's story doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with the cave... the time bubble story could go on without too many people knowing about it, including the residents of Shelterville and some of the crossover characters. Similarly, the events of the Pr0nCrest story could go on without some of the others knowing much if anything about it; the bounty hunter and bad guy drama could be happening in the background, and maybe even get a cameo in some of the strips, without really getting involved with the actual plot of those strips.

As an example, consider Division/bell Episode III. Even though there's a giant chicken attacking in the background, Alex is going about his day without even really noticing. That's the beauty of overlapping storylines... even though they're all happening at the same place (and can be related in terms of some of the characters), they don't have to actually have anything to do with each other.

One other thing... while the idea of having Steve and Bobby appear in the graveyard is cool (and I like the joke, too), I don't think that the cave entrance should be revealed at that point. Since it is supposed to be found by the brothers while they're digging for treasure, I think that it probably shouldn't be uncovered until later in the week... especially since Steve and Bobby will be showing up before Gray and Alex, which means they'll be pre-bubble and all of the freaky stuff won't be happening yet. Unless I change the D/b schedule and have the boys appear earlier.

The Misfists

Postby Wheels » Sat Oct 07, 2006 3:25 am

My plans for the kids is an entrance through the roof of the general store. After a wardrobe malfunction. (The girls find Kams Valkeries steel bikinis and think they are authentic cow girl wear) they barrow cloths from the dry good section. The deputy is duped into thinking that Stewart is the Kids ugly dog (Much to Stewarts dismay) and that the kids are from a circus a story floated by Kams girls to get the kids out of a indecent exposure charge. I'm still trying to think how the kids explain a centaur girl to our simple deputy. I would like for Darkeyes to heal Steves foot. (The kids know Steve from cameos on MM) Note Dark eyes has had a character change since I published the Charater sheet. Her eyes now glow green. (She Leveled) I want to do a scooby doo spoof with the brothers in the Grave Yard. Maybe bring Bobby (Life and Death) At the end of the story I intend to bring one ghost back to Terra with the Kids as a keep sake. He will then have a reaccuring role in MM

The centaur-girl thing could be kind of easy... since the deputy would already believe that they're from the circus, then she could just be one of the "freaks" of the freak show... "It's all chicken-wire and mole hair, don'chaknow... Wild Bill uses the same sort of thing all the time."

Also, if you're interested... since it had been mentioned in another thread (Converging Plotlines, I believe) that the "Indians" might have actually been Elves that were exiled from Gray's world, I could design you a proper Elven ghost to accompany them, along with a few details of his/her/its life that you could use in your comic as you choose. I'd even send all of the info to you privately, so that prying eyes wouldn't know about it until you decided to use it. *smiles*

EDIT:

Here's an updated schedule for D/b, that allows more time for the events of the cave.

Wednesday - Alex and Gray appear in Shelterville, quite unexpectedly. A covered wagon gets in the way; lots of noise ensues. Our heroes head to town, bumping into a cloaked figure on their way in.

Thursday - Gray realizes that he no longer has the pendant he uses to open the portals. Alex points out that this is a very bad thing.

Friday - Alex and Gray begin searching around town, trying to find out both where they are and what happened to the pendant. Rumors persist that there is strange stuff going on at the cemetery, and that graves are being dug up for an unknown reason. The Scoleri Brothers begin running through town screaming about ghosts; Gray and Alex decide to check out the cemetery.

Saturday - While exploring the cemetery with a few of the others, they find that one of the open graves has a fake coffin in it; there's a stairway underneath leading down into the burial cave. Ghosts and other weird stuffs are appearing much more frequently now.

Sunday - In the cave, Alex, Gray, and the others discover a trunk that seems familiar to Gray sitting off to the side with a strange glow coming off of it, as well as an altar with Gray's pendant on it. It's glowing the same way as the trunk. Gray suggests that things be handled with caution; a jump-kick to the trunk pretty much renders that suggestion moot.

Monday - The kick seems to rattle the trunk a bit, and the strange glow fades. Gray retrieves his amulet, and they see the cloaked character who stole it trying to escape from the cave. The ghosts returning to their graves grab him, pulling him kicking and screaming into the other world with them. Alex muses, "Wow. You never saw that on Scooby Doo..."

Tuesday - Not wanting to take part in the festivities, Alex and Gray leave Shelterville via a portal. There's a decent chance that something else gets broken in the process, possibly the Shelterville sign...

I'm also thinking of showing a scene of Shelterville in the present day, as an abandoned ghost-town that no one knows the name of (or even that it exists.) I might close that comic with a close-up of one of the ruined and dusty buildings, and have a browned photograph on the wall or in the floor that has the crossover cast in it... taken at the party.

The events on Monday could also be interesting for a certain Reaper, since he might have a pretty good idea what was going to happen to the cloaked individual on the "other side." I also don't think I'll reveal the identity of the villian, so as to leave a little bit more mystery in the events of Shelterville.

Done deal, my friend.

And you know, knocking over the sign could be why shelterville is forgotten now.

And I updated the timeline. I'll fill in Kori's parts tomorrow morning. Good move with the ghosts, btw.

Okay, I'm going to open things up a bit for my characters. Anyone who needs characters earlier in the week than the 31st (when my contributions are due to appear) can have them; I'll assume that all the storyline events are done before my pages, which will be party time (I'm assuming the party follows *after* all the cave/trunk/Scoleri stuff), and any appearance of the gang (I know Darian's planning something with Mike and Tink) will be DS-canon. Mike in particular is likely to be where stuff is happening, as he's half-cat and therefore very curious. Expect any character who upstages him to be challenged to a Mexican standoff-style duel at the party (and/or many drinking competitions).

Anyone else planning to do pistol duels at any point, btw? It seems such a wild-west thing to do...

Brian, meanwhile, is likely to be stumbling around slightly dazed, because that's his natural state of existence. If possible I'd like for him to run into a true love at some point, but I still don't know which character that will be - the decision will be made soon, I promise! - and be just about beginning to make sense of his feelings by the time he's zapped back to 2006. If a few people could put Brian being a dork in the background somewhere, that would be good. (I'm hoping to have a full colour character sheet by the end of this weekend - will post it up ASAP).

If everything's sorted out by the party, expect a confused, love-struck bear, a drunken, gun-toting cat-person and an exasperated, hot alien to be causing havoc. (If you want them to cause any havoc at any earlier point, this can also be arranged).
